Nigel D. | Subjects & Instruments Taught:
Violin, Viola, Cello, Mandolin, Ukulele, Banjo, Piano & Guitar
Nigel Deane is a musical artist who has been based in Los Angeles since 2016. His primary artistic activities include playing the violin, composing music, and improvising, and he has worked with various organizations, groups, and individuals nationwide in one or more of these three fields, including the Dover String Quartet, Wild Up, Invisible Lines in Houston, TX, and the Resonant Bodies Festival in New York, to name a few.
Nigel has been teaching for over three and is able to teach all ages. Nigel believes that an emphasis on artistic education for young children is becoming increasingly crucial, and that it is equally crucial that this education is exciting, engaging, and expands outside of the realm of art into all other parts of life. His educational approach recognizes the necessity for student agency and individuality in the arts. It also factors in an approach to creativity that only partially involves technical mastery, while also challenging students to think critically and allowing for free creative play. Nigel has a B.Mus. in Composition from Rice University and an MFA as a Performer-Composer from CalArts.
Nigel has appeared as a soloist or chamber musician in venues such as the Chicago Symphony Center, the Wild Beast at CalArts, Art Share L.A., and REDCAT, in addition to performing with rock, pop, and jazz groups around Los Angeles.
