Colleen C. | Subjects & Instruments Taught:
Piano, Voice, Guitar, Ukulele and Music Theory

Colleen is teacher, collaborator, and performer of music with 8 years of teaching experience.   She received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she studied piano with Dr. Ann Chang and composed music for films produced by students at the University’s Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film. This past December, Colleen graduated with a master’s degree in the Music Industry at the University of Southern California. In addition to teaching music lessons, she is currently running the creative department of Wixen Music Publishing.

Colleen is an experienced accompanist having worked for concert choirs, show choirs, and dance troupes. Under the mentorship of Dr. Jill Timmons, she and her duo piano partner, Melissa Terrall, have performed in Oregon, Colorado, Washington, Massachusetts, Florida, and Alaska. In 2019, the Carney-Terrall Duo was awarded $20,000 for placing first at the National Federation of Music Clubs’ Ellis Duo Piano Competition. In addition to her work as an accompanist and duo piano partner, Colleen has had experience playing in jazz combos, a variety of chamber music ensembles, and as a soloist with the Portland, OR Jewish Community Orchestra.

Colleen has taught piano, ukulele, guitar, and voice to students of all ages since her undergraduate studies at UNL. As a musician who has spent quite a bit of time composing and improvising, Colleen thoroughly enjoys getting creative during lessons and often encourages her students to experiment with new ideas and think outside of the box.
